Studying for the LEED Exam

April 28, 2009

I will be attempting the LEED for new construction exam this Saturday and I have to admit, I’m not at all as prepared for this test as I would like to be. But at least my studio project is over with and I can focus on reading/reviewing/cramming full time now. Here’s a little snippet of what I’ve been reading tonight:

“The angle of maximum candela from each interior luminaire as located in the building shall intersect opaque building interior surfaces and not exit out through the windows.”

Why couldn’t they just say “don’t point the lights out the windows?” I swear they are trying to make this difficult on purpose!

Last All-nighter

April 23, 2009

Tonight will be the last time that I will ever pull an all-nighter in studio as an undergraduate student.

It’s a refreshing yet sad fact because I absolutely hate them, but at the same time love them. The majority of my studio will most likely be here for the entirety of the night as well which is what makes all-nighters so much fun. It’s at about 2:30 in the morning when the true studio culture begins to come alive; we get our second wind of energy, blare music, and find ways to distract ourselves from the fact that we are operating at about 30% efficiency. But somehow we always manage to pull everything together at the last possible moment. Then of course it takes about 24 hours for our stress, sugar and caffeine levels to return to normal as we attempt to sleep off what I am coining a “studio hangover,” resulting from being up way too long, sitting in chairs with zero lumbar support and staring at a computer screen for hours upon end.

It’s gonna be a party…guacamole included.

Lifehouse’s Everything Skit

April 17, 2009

I know this has been circulating around for a while but I just came across this video again a few days ago and it continues to amaze me. The song and the story that goes along with it are so moving, I find myself with tears in my eyes every time I watch this…just thought I would share…

nine nineteen o’nine

April 15, 2009

Today when I went to work out at the rec I put my bag into one of the day use lockers, after locking it I looked up at the locker number so I could repeat it in my head 20 times so that I wouldn’t forget it. The locker number was 919…what a fun coincidence! I’ve been noticing lately that the numbers 9 or 19 have been showing up a lot. I guess it’s sort of like when you get a new car, suddenly you realize how many people have that same car.

There are also nineteen buttons on the back of my wedding dress. :)

Cabo…Here We Come!

April 14, 2009

cabo

We finally decided where we’re going on our honeymoon…Cabo San Lucas, Mexcio! I absolutely cannot wait, five days of lounging on the beach with my husband, words can’t even begin to describe how amazing that will be.

Mark just booked our flights this morning so it’s official!

Photo Walls

April 8, 2009

Lately I’ve fallen in love with all of the photo walls that I keep seeing on the design blogs that I peruse daily. I especially like the ones that have a nice mixture of frame style, mat size and orientation with all the frames being the same color.

I’m hoping to start my own photo wall soon; it’s going to take a while to find all of the frames that I want, have pictures printed and cut mat board to size. I think I’ll start at Hobby Lobby in their custom framing reject pile, I can always repaint them to whatever color that I want; I’m thinking all the frames will be black, some will be a glossy finish and others matte. I also want to frame a mixture of black and white photographs with a few screen prints thrown in to mix things up.

Here’s one that I found on Etsy that I’m completely in love with as well as a couple of photo walls that are my inspiration.
